ASHES/ASHES is thrilled to present its inaugural exhibition, BOUGHT/STOLEN/ LOST/FOUND. On view from June 16 through July 31, 2014, the exhibition includes works by Ron Arad, BOIS de B, Anton Ginzburg, Shiro Kuramata, Gaetano Pesce, Karim Rashid, Ettore Sottsass/Memphis Milano, Philippe Starck, and Marcel Wanders/Droog Design.
BOUGHT/STOLEN/LOST/FOUND features a variety of design pieces ranging from the 1980s to the early 21st century with a subtext that speaks to the life cycle of collectibles. With time, objects are dislocated as styles change, markets shift and we continually re-accessorize our environment. Some of these objects find the opportunity for a second life through auction houses, eBay, or Craigslist; others don’t. The objects and vignettes of this exhibition tell a story of the lost and the lost-then-found. Even as the objects within the exhibition are preserved and re-contextualized in a Los Angeles gallery space, they still speak to their original environments – vanished interiors from design icons such as the Paramount Hotel, moss, Karim Rashid Inc. and Chiat\Day NY. For interiors can be as vulnerable and subject to time and change as the objects that define them.

A video program encapsulating these themes will be on view in the gallery everyday for the duration of the exhibition, featuring a screening of the award-wining documentary STOLEN each Friday.

Please join us for a gallery reception on July 10 from 7pm – 9pm, with a discussion led by design expert and LAMA director Peter Loughrey at 8pm.
